Stump grinding is the process where the stump of a previously felled tree is extracted. Generally after tree felling several inches of the trunk and the root structure are left behind in the ground, making the local area impractical to use along with possibly providing a habitat for pests or harbouring tree diseases such as honey fungus. If your back yard has stumps in the earth, having them removed could clear the area, presenting you with more space that you could use to expand your lawn size or create new spaces to install patio or decking. Specialist stump grinding firms can clear away stumps of any scale. The method ordinarily consists of cutting the stump as low to the ground as possible utilising a chainsaw, and then using specialised stump grinding equipment to grind away the stump. Stumps are ground down to roughly 10-12 inches beneath the ground surface to allow for replanting, although sometimes landscaping projects may need the stump to be removed deeper than this. The wood chippings that are produced by the stump grinding may be either infilled back into the hole and used as compost in other areas of your garden, or the stump grinding company could remove it and dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner. Also, many experienced stump grinding companies provide specialist narrow machines that could be used if there is limited access to your garden such as via a side alley.

Laurencekirk is a village in the historic county of Kincardineshire, Scotland, just off the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen main road, which bypassed it in 1985. It is carried out as part of Aberdeenshire. It is the largest settlement in the Howe o’ the Mearns location and also houses the regional senior high school; Mearns Academy, which was granted the Charter Mark in 2003. Its old name was Conveth, an anglification of the Gaelic Coinmheadh, referring to a commitment to give complimentary food as well as board to passing soldiers. Laurencekirk remains in the valley between the Hill of Garvock and also the Cairn O’ Mount. The renowned landmark of the Johnston Tower can be seen on the top of the Garvock. Laurencekirk was, in the past, known for making snuff boxes with an unique type of impermeable hinge (known as a “Laurencekirk joint”) designed by James Sandy. Laurencekirk Golf Club (currently defunct) initially appeared in the early 1900s. The club closed at the time of WW2. Lewis Grassic Gibbon composed much about The Mearns as well as the bordering area in his book Sunset Song. A tribute centre can be visited at Arbuthnott a few miles from Laurencekirk. Fred Urquhart worked on the land at Laurencekirk in the Second World War, and his narratives make use of his monitorings of country life right here.
