Tree felling could be executed for various reasons. Trees that are diseased or damaged and incapable of recovering may need to be felled to make sure that they do not fall independently and cause personal injury or damage to property. Similarly, if trees are damaged by bad weather or other factors and have partially fallen they will probably need felling to ensure that they do not cause any more destruction either to properties or adjoining trees. Domestic tree felling may also be carried out if a tree has grown too large or is especially close to a building and therefore more likely to cause structural damage. Furthermore, trees in gardens can be felled if they are obscuring the light to a house or otherwise affecting your enjoyment of your garden. Though it can be tempting to handle tree felling as a DIY job, it is hazardous to undertake without the appropriate training and planning. Specialist tree surgeons can fell trees in a safe way and ensure that they do not cause any damage to property as they are felled. If the area around a tree is restricted, the tree can be felled in portions to limit the chance of it falling and causing destruction in the nearby area. Tree felling companies will also dispose of the felled tree in a sustainable way, and may even cut up the tree into logs for use in a wood burner or stove.

Ashtead is a village inside the Metropolitan Green Belt of Surrey. The Ashtead Residents’ Association, established in 1945, aims to represent the views of all who reside in Ashtead via a network of 142 Road Stewards and regular meetings. Ashtead includes a substantial two-part conservation area which includes the mansion Ashtead House used by City of London Freemen’s School, and 6 other schools. Amenities consist of parks, outlying woodland trails plus a high street with convenience shopping, cafes and restaurants, a football club and a cricket club. There has been settlement in Ashtead since at least the Roman period, with a Roman villa excavated in what is now Ashtead Common. Ashtead features within the Domesday Book as Stede. The oldest part of Ashtead has the principle shopping and social area of the village, with 2 pubs as well as the Ashtead Village Club which is a C&IU affiliate. It includes a small southern conservation area, however outside of this has eight listed brick buildings, both over two centuries old, including the Old Rectory which has been divided into Ashtead Lodge, Forge Cottage and Wisteria Cottage which are dated to roughly the 17th century and are also Grade II listed. The area north of the railway line is Ashtead Common, which is managed by the City of London Corporation due to a long-standing preservation order, and is a national nature reserve. Lower Ashtead is a relatively flat location leading to Ashtead Common that has a recreation ground, a youth club and skate park, a pub, and a range of shops all built near the preserved large square of wood in front of the railway station. Ashtead Park contains three significant listed buildings and four lakes/ponds.
