While its significance as an element of garden design is often overlooked, fencing is a key part of both the aesthetics and functionality of your garden. Garden fencing will differ between the front and back of properties, with higher and more solid wood fencing commonly being used in the rear garden, while the front of the home typically features more compact and more attractive fencing. Fencing for the front of the home tends to have a low height and large gaps between the wooden slats. It is also often coloured to enhance its ornamental effect. Fencing in the back garden is often used for privacy and to preserve the borders of a garden, as well as to keep domestic pets or other small animals or wildlife either in or out. For this reason, these kinds of fences are around 6 feet high and use wooden slats with no gaps in between. Due to the additional height, these fences often have concrete footings laid between each panel to offer security and stopping the fence from blowing over or being broken in high winds. Garden fencing panels are generally made of wood. The posts in between the sections are produced from either timber, stone, or concrete. More recently, fence panels have started to be made of heavily recycled and eco friendly composite materials such as recycled bamboo.

Hexham is a market town and civil parish in the English county of Northumberland. It lies south of the River Tyne, and was the administrative hub for the Tynedale district from 1974 to 2009. Smaller towns and villages around Hexham consist of Corbridge, Riding Mill, Stocksfield and Wylam to the east, Acomb and Bellingham to the north, Allendale to the south and Haydon Bridge, Bardon Mill and Haltwhistle towards the west. Newcastle upon Tyne is nearly 25 miles (40 km) towards the east. With reference to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11829. Hexham’s architectural landscape is led by Hexham Abbey. The present church mainly dates from roughly 1170, built in the Early English Gothic style of architecture. The choir, north and south transepts and the cloisters, where canons studied and meditated, date from this period. The east end was rebuilt in 1860. The abbey stands at the west end of the market place, which is the home of the Shambles, a Grade II covered market developed in 1766 by Sir Walter Blackett. At the east end of the market place is the Moot Hall, a 15th-century gatehouse that belonged to the town’s defences. The Moot Hall is a Grade I listed structure, and was employed as a court house till 1838. The Moot Hall now houses the Council offices of the Museums Department and the ground floor is an art gallery open to hire. Hexham won the Town award in the 2005 Britain in Bloom awards. In the same year Hexham was additionally named ‘England’s Favourite Market Town’ by the publication ‘Country Life’.
