Although its value as an aspect of garden design is sometimes ignored, fencing is a key part of both the appearance and functionality of your garden. Garden fencing is likely to differ between the front and back of properties, with higher and more substantial wood fencing typically being used in the rear garden, while the front of the property typically makes use of smaller sized and more ornamental fencing. Fencing for the front of the home tends to feature a low height and large gaps between the wooden slats. Also, it is often painted to improve its ornamental effect. Fencing in the back garden is commonly used for privacy and to protect the borders of a garden, as well as to keep pets or other small animals or wildlife either in or out. Because of this, these styles of fences are about 6 feet high and use wooden slats with no gaps in between. Because of the extra height, these fences usually have concrete footings laid between each panel to offer stability preventing the fence from blowing over or being destroyed in bad weather. Garden fencing panels are generally constructed from wood. The posts in between the panels are produced from either wood, stone, or concrete. More recently, fence panels have started to be manufactured from heavily recycled and sustainable composite materials such as recycled bamboo.
