Although its significance as an aspect of garden design is sometimes overlooked, fencing is an essential part of both the aesthetics and usefulness of your garden. Garden fencing tends to differ between the front and rear of properties, with taller and more strong timber fencing frequently being used in the rear garden, while the front of the property often makes use of smaller and more decorative fencing. Fencing for the front of the home tends to have a low height and large spaces between the wooden slats. It is also often coloured to enhance its ornamental effect. Fencing in the back garden is often used for privacy and to preserve the boundaries of a garden, as well as to keep domestic pets or other small animals or wildlife either in or out. For this reason, these styles of fences are approximately 6 feet high and use wooden slats without gaps in between. Due to the extra height, these fences often have concrete footings laid in between each section to offer strength and stopping the fence from blowing over or being broken in poor weather. Garden fencing panels are generally constructed from wood. The posts in between the sections are produced from either timber, stone, or concrete. More recently, fence panels have started to be made from heavily recycled and sustainable composite materials such as recycled bamboo.

Salisbury is the only city in Wiltshire with a population of about 40,000. The site of Stonehenge which is merely eight miles away sucks in a good amount of tourism, as does the city cathedral. Having a heritage backdating to the Neolithic age there are many houses in need of upgrading and preserving.
