Carnoustie is a town and former police burgh inside the council area of Angus in Scotland. It’s at the mouth of the Barry Burn on the North Sea coast. Based on the 2011 census, Carnoustie features a permanent population of around 11394 people. This makes it the fourth biggest town in Angus. Its nearest major road is the A92. The town is best recognised for the Carnoustie Golf Links course that often hosts The Open Championship. Even though golf has been played on Barry Links since the 16th century, a formal 10-hole golf course was laid out in 1850 to the style of Alan Robertson of St Andrews.
