Wooden decking is an increasingly prevalent choice for creating outdoor seating areas in gardens. Due to the natural beauty of wood, they can be very beautiful spaces which you can use year round with the addition of outside heating and light. Wooden decking is generally installed in locations in front of patio or French doors where they can create a seamless transition between inside and outside spaces. Wooden decking is available in any size or shape to fit any area. Curved designs or large areas connected by pathways can produce an impressive effect.
Wooden decking is reasonably simple to install and causes little disruption, particularly in comparison to alternatives like patio or paving. It can even be installed over the top of an existing patio. It is crucial however to be sure that your wooden decking is structurally sound and able to take the load of any furniture or plants that you would like to use on the decking.
There is a array of types of wood that can be used in wooden decking. Commonly decking is made of hardwood, but there are softwoods available that fulfil the durability requirements. As hardwood decking will need maintenance, which typically will involve annual cleaning and staining for weather proofing, composite woods are becoming popular for use in wooden decking as they are stronger and require much less maintenance.

Selkirk is a community and historical royal burgh in the Scottish Borders Council district of southeastern Scotland. It lies on the Ettrick Water, a tributary of the River Tweed. The people of the community are known as Souters, which implies cobblers (shoe manufacturers and menders). At the time of the 2011 census, Selkirk’s population was 5,784. Selkirk was previously the county town of Selkirkshire. Selkirk is one of the oldest Royal Burghs in Scotland as well as is the site of the earliest settlements in what is currently the Scottish Borders. The town’s name indicates “church by the hall” from the Old English sele (“hall” or “chateau”) and also cirice (“church”).
