Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London inside the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It is separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to build the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name derives from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby house and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Today, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by way of Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains an hour through the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains an hour. The railway station was openedto stimulate the building of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed a lot of individuals.
