Bembridge is a town and civil parish located on the easternmost factor of the Isle of Wight. It had a population of 3,848 according to the 2001 census of the UK, resulting in the doubtful insurance claim by some homeowners that Bembridge is the largest village in England. Bembridge is residence to a lot of the Island’s richest homeowners. The population had lowered to 3,688 at the 2011 Census. Bembridge rests at the extreme eastern point of the Isle of Wight. Prior to land improvement the area of Bembridge as well as Yaverland was practically an island, divided from the remainder of the Isle of Wight by Brading Haven. On the Joan Blaeu map of 1665, Bembridge is shown as Binbridge I?le, almost divided from the rest of Wight by River Yar. Before the Victorian age Bembridge was a collection of wood huts and farmhouses, which just settled right into a true town with the building of the church in 1827 (later reconstructed in 1846).
