Stump grinding describes the procedure in which the stump of a previously felled tree is removed. Generally during tree felling a couple of inches of the trunk and the root system are retained in the ground, making the nearby space unusable and also potentially providing a habitat for bugs or harbouring tree diseases such as honey fungus. If your garden has stumps in the soil, having them taken out can open up the location, delivering added space that could be used to grow your lawn size or produce new areas to install patio or decking.
Professional stump grinding firms can get rid of stumps of any proportion. The technique commonly comprises trimming the stump as low to the ground as possible working with a chainsaw, and then using specialist stump grinding equipment to grind away the stump. Stumps are ground down to about 10-12 inches under the ground surface to allow for planting, although occasionally landscaping projects may need the stump to be ground deeper than this. The wood chipping that is made by the stump grinding could be either infilled back into the hole and used as mulch for other areas of your garden, or the stump grinding company could remove it for you and dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way. In addition, numerous professional stump grinding companies provide specialist thin equipment that can be used if there is restricted access to your garden such as via a side alley.

Ilminster is also pointed out in the Domesday Book (1086) as Ileminstre indicating ‘The church on the River Isle’ from the Old English ysle and mynster. By this duration Ilminster was a prospering neighborhood and also was approved the right to hold a weekly market, which it still does. Ilminster belonged to the hundred of Abdick and Bulstone. In 1645 during the English Civil War Ilminster was the scene of a skirmish between parliamentary troops under Edward Massie and Royalist forces under Lord Goring who defended control of the bridges prior to the Battle of Langport. The community consists of the structures of a sixteenth-century grammar school, the Ilminster Meeting House, which acts as the community’s art gallery and concert hall. There is additionally a Gospel Hall.
