While its significance as an aspect of garden design is sometimes overlooked, fencing is an integral part of both the appearance and practicality of your garden. Garden fencing is likely to differ between the front and rear of properties, with higher and more sturdy wooden fencing commonly being installed in the rear garden, while the front of the property generally makes use of smaller and more attractive fencing. Fencing for the front of the home tends to feature a low height and large gaps between the wooden slats. It is also often painted to enhance its decorative effect. Fencing in the back garden is often used for privacy and to protect the borders of a garden, as well as to keep household pets or other small animals or wildlife either in or out. Due to this, these styles of fences are around 6 feet high and use wooden slats without gaps in between. Because of the added height, these fences usually have concrete footings laid in between each section to offer strength preventing the fence from blowing over or being ruined in bad weather. Garden fencing sections are generally made of wood. The posts in between the sections are manufactured from either timber, stone, or concrete. More recently, fence panels have started to be constructed from heavily recycled and eco friendly composite materials such as recycled bamboo.

Minehead is a coastal town and civil parish in the English county of Somerset. It sits on the south bank of the Bristol Channel, about 21 miles (34 kilometres) north-west of the county town of Taunton, 12 miles (19 km) from the border with the county of Devon and in distance of the Exmoor National Park. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11981, meaning that it is the most populous town in the West Somerset local government district. There is evidence of human occupation in the region since the Bronze and Iron Ages. There was a modest port at Minehead by 1380, which turned into a significant trading centre through the medieval period. Most trade moved to more substantial ports throughout the 20th century, however pleasure steamers did call at the port. A notable surge in construction throughout the early years of the 20th century brought about the large main shopping avenue and adjoining roads with Edwardian-style architecture. There are a range of schools and religious, cultural and sporting facilities consisting of sailing and wind surfing and golf. A popular ancient local tradition involves the Hobby Horse, which takes to the streets for 4 days on the eve of the first of May each year, with accompanying musician and performers and rival horses. The town is the starting point of the South West Coast Path National Trail, which is the country’s longest long-distance countryside walking trail. The Minehead Railway was opened in 1874 and closed in 1971, but it has since been reopened as the West Somerset Train.
