Patios continue to be a very common method of creating functional outdoor spaces which you can use for socialising, dining, or just to enhance the beauty of your garden. Patios are created from block or slab paving and can come in a huge range of colours, patterns and designs. Patios can be laid in either random course patterns where the pattern is varied, or in repeating patterns that have a consistent effect. Patios are extremely durable and demand almost no maintenance, only occasional cleaning to retain the natural beauty of the stone. Patios are generally installed in locations where patio or French doors can open directly out onto them as this causes a seamless transition between the inside and outside spaces.
Patios come in a wide variety of colours and types of stone. Consider adding a different colour and style of stone to either inlay a fashionable design or as edging to highlight the shape of your patio. It is vital to consider the use of your patio when designing it and measure precisely to be sure that any furniture will fit the intended space. Experienced patio and paving companies will be able to design you a patio that perfectly fulfills your preferences and creates an outdoor area that is functional as well as beautiful.

Dunbeath is a village in south-east Caithness, Scotland on the A9 road. It was the native home of Neil M. Gunn (1891-1973), writer of The Silver Darlings, Highland River etc., a number of whose novels are embeded in Dunbeath and also its Strath. Dunbeath has a very abundant historical landscape, the website of countless Iron Age brochs and also an early medieval reclusive site (see Alex Morrison’s historical study, “Dunbeath: A Cultural Landscape”.) Of Dunbeath’s landscape, Gunn composed: “These tiny straths, like the Strath of Dunbeath, have this intimate elegance. In boyhood we learn more about every square yard of it. We incorporate it physically and our memories hold it. Birches, hazel trees for nutting, swimming pools with trout as well as an occasionally visible salmon, river-flats with the wind on the bracken and also vanishing bunny scuts, a wealth of wild flower and also little bird life, the rising hawk, the unanticipated roe, the old graveyard, ideas of the folk who when lived far inland in straths and also hollows, the past as well as today held in a minute of day-dream.” (‘My Bit of Britain’, 1941.). There is a neighborhood museum/landscape analysis centre at the old village school.
