Garden sheds are a vital component of any practical garden space. They provide storage for bulky garden tools, as well as for other equipment. A substantial garden shed could provide enough space for plant potting or a general workshop. Alternatively, a sizeable shed could be utilised as an inside sitting area. Garden sheds come in an enormous array of sizes and can be specified to your particular needs, providing you full control over the number and position of windows, type, size and location of door, and design of roof. Garden sheds commonly come in one of three materials. Wooden sheds are the classic style and can be integrated well into any garden creating a natural look, especially if the wood used for the shed is matched to bordering fences. Wooden sheds remain very popular, although they will demand maintenance by retreating or staining the wood to maintain the life of the shed. Garden sheds are also constructed from metal, which is very strong and therefore great for storage of tools and other equipment. Metal sheds also require very little maintenance. The final material for garden sheds is plastic, which in modern examples is far more durable than might be expected. When considering a garden shed, it’s crucial to make sure that you select one that will fit in your garden space. Garden sheds should be placed on a level area, and will require a base to be built as a foundation. This base could be produced from either concrete, paving, gravel or a floating timber base, but will have to be the right size for your shed and capable of supporting the weight of your shed when loaded.

Dunbeath is a town in south-east Caithness, Scotland on the A9 road. It was the native home of Neil M. Gunn (1891-1973), author of The Silver Darlings, Highland River and so on, many of whose books are embeded in Dunbeath as well as its Strath. Dunbeath has a very rich archaeological landscape, the website of countless Iron Age brochs as well as an early middle ages reclusive site (see Alex Morrison’s historical study, “Dunbeath: A Cultural Landscape”.) Of Dunbeath’s landscape, Gunn created: “These small straths, like the Strath of Dunbeath, have this intimate appeal. In boyhood we get to know every square yard of it. We incorporate it physically as well as our memories hold it. Birches, hazel trees for nutting, pools with trout and also a sometimes visible salmon, river-flats with the wind on the bracken and going away rabbit scuts, a wealth of wild flower and also small bird life, the soaring hawk, the unanticipated roe, the old graveyard, ideas of the individual that as soon as lived much inland in straths and also hollows, the past and also the present held in a minute of day-dream.” (‘My Little Bit Of Britain’, 1941.). There is a neighborhood museum/landscape analysis centre at the old village college.
