While its value as an aspect of garden design is sometimes neglected, fencing is a vital part of both the aesthetics and usefulness of your garden. Garden fencing will differ between the front and rear of properties, with taller and more strong wood fencing frequently being used in the rear garden, while the front of the house usually utilises smaller sized and more attractive fencing. Fencing for the front of the home tends to feature a low height and large spaces between the wooden slats. Also, it is often stained to enhance its ornamental effect.
Fencing in the back garden is generally used for privacy and to maintain the boundaries of a garden, as well as to keep domestic pets or other small animals or wildlife either in or out. For this reason, these styles of fences are approximately 6 feet high and use wooden slats with no gaps in between. Because of the increased height, these fences usually have concrete footings laid between each section to provide strength and stop the fence from blowing over or being damaged in bad weather.
Garden fencing sections are generally constructed from wood. The posts in between the sections are manufactured from either wood, stone, or concrete. More recently, fence panels have started to be constructed from heavily recycled and sustainable composite materials such as recycled bamboo.
